Papers of DuBose Heyward chiefly consist of writings and correspondence; together with the papers of Jane Screven Heyward (1882-1940), the Heyward family (1783-1936), the DuBose family (ca. 1790-1904), and the Screven family (1833-1932). Papers also contain records (1938-1945) pertaining to the Dock Street Theatre and include records of an annual playwriting competition consisting of programs; forms; correspondence of DuBose Heyward, Robert N.S. Whitelaw, Dorothy Heyward, Clare Booth Luce, and others; clippings; reports; play synopses; lists of plays; and critiques of plays submitted for the competition.
